A no-frills just-drive-the-fucker-home rhythm section. Two-minute songs played at high-speed with high intensity. Then along came a bunch of guys who named themselves Ramones. While disco allowed people to strut their stuff on the dance floor, it adopted a style of slick production that would render it a lifeless and temporary fix at best for people who really wanted to let loose. Similar to what happened to jazz when Bebop came to the fore, Rock was no longer dance music, which may explain why desperate, latent butt-shakers of the era turned to that abomination known as disco. Yes, rock had come a long way since Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry and Gene Vincent, but in doing so it had lost touch with its core.

While some of the music of the era justified the complexity of production, a lot of it didn’t, and the endless drawn-out jams favored at the time had to be getting tiresome. The music was often seriously overproduced to amp up the drama and the songs tended to be on the long side. Way, way back in the mid-70’s when the rock world began to split into sub-genres like hard rock, progressive rock, glam rock, heavy metal and the like, two common characteristics united the lot. Marky Ramone once said the beat lives on, meaning the music lives on.A no-brainer in so many ways. The Ramones music still lives on, with Marky Ramone still touring the world performing Ramones material. The Ramones were most famous for writing and performing fast, short, and simple songs. Overall I would say that this is one of the best Ramones albums in the 1970s, simply because all the songs are well written, well produced and well preformed. The last track of the album is called "Why Is It Always This Way," once again another fast tempo, short, and simple punk rock song by The Ramones. The original was done by Al Frazier, Sonny Harris, Carl White, Turner Wilson, and the most famous version on "Surfing Bird" was done by The Trash Men. The thirteenth song is called "Surfing Bird," again another cover done by The Ramones. The twelfth song is called "Ramona," another short and simple song. They wrote and performed short and simple songs. That's what made The Ramones unique in the 70s. The eleventh song is called "I Can't Give You Anything." Another short and simple song, another really short song, running at 2 minutes and 1 seconds. This song has a slower tempo than the rest but still a great song. The tenth song on the album is "I Wanna Be Well," again a short and simple song. Do you wanna dance is one of the covers on this album. The ninth song is "Do You Wanna Dance," originally recorded by Bobby Freeman. Lasting 2 minutes and 1 seconds, another short and simple song.

The eighth song on the album is called "Teenage Lobotomy," another track in the 1979 movie Rock and Roll High School. This is another song that is short and simple but running at 2 minutes 31 seconds. The seventh songs on the album is called "We're a Happy Family," once again another fast tempo punk rock song talking about a happy family. It was also the opening song to the 1979 movie Rock and Roll High School in which The Ramones were also included in the movie too. The sixth song is called "Sheena." It's a punk rocker one, again another fast and simple song. The fifth song is called "I Don't Care," one of the shortest songs on the album lasting for only 1 minute and 39 seconds. The third song on the album is a ballad, but still at a medium tempo, "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow." The fourth song on the album is called "Locket Love," once again a short simple punk rock song. The next song of the album is another fast one called "Rockaway Beach," another short song too, lasting 2 minutes and 6 seconds. The first track to the album is a short, fast tempo song called "Cretin Hop," a mindless, bopping opening to the album and only lasting 1 minute 56 seconds because that's what makes The Ramones very unique because they keep the songs short and simple and the genre punk rock keeps the time signature at 4/4. It doesn't have the revolutionary impact of The Ramones, but it's a better album and one of the finest records of the late 1970s. Rocket to Russia was labelled as one of the most listenable and enjoyable albums. This album has the band more focused on the songs, meaning that it gave the album a range to different tempos and a mixture of original songs and covers too. Rocket to Russia was the third album for the New York punk rock band The Ramones.
